Recovery may have changed your relationship with the addiction that brought you here. You've probably also learned a great deal about yourself along the way.
And still, there may be things you keep doing that you wish you didn't.
Maybe you get defensive when you don't want to. Withdraw from people you care about. Try to control situations. People please. Procrastinate. Isolate. Overwork. Get caught in another compulsive behavior. Or react in ways you understand afterward but can't seem to stop in the moment.
You may know exactly what you're doing.
You may even understand where it comes from.
But knowing better doesn't always mean doing differently.
And trying harder to control yourself may not be the answer.
Most of us have learned to approach unwanted behavior by trying to stop it, control it, replace it, or overcome it.
In this workshop, we'll try something different.
Instead of beginning with:
we'll become curious about:
That shift can change the conversation you have with yourself.
You don't have to excuse the behavior. You don't have to like it. And you don't have to let it continue running your life.
But understanding what is driving it can open possibilities that fighting with yourself cannot.
This isn't a 90-minute lecture about recovery.
Before you arrive, choose one behavior, reaction, or recurring pattern you genuinely want to understand or change.
During the workshop, I'll guide you through a process for looking at that pattern differently. You'll have time for personal reflection, facilitated discussion, and opportunities to learn from what other people in recovery are discovering about themselves.
You will not be required to share anything you want to keep private.
You'll leave having actually experienced a different way of relating to something you've been trying to change.
01
A clearer understanding of what is driving a recurring behavior or reaction.
02
Greater curiosity about something you've previously judged or fought against.
03
A different way of responding when the pattern shows up.
04
A practical experience you can continue exploring after the workshop.
05
A glimpse of what recovery can look like when the goal isn't simply better self-control.
You've been seriously working on recovery from addiction for at least one year.
You've made meaningful progress, but there are still behaviors, reactions, or patterns in your life that you want to understand or change.
You're willing to look at yourself with curiosity rather than simply finding another way to make yourself behave differently.
You do not need any previous experience with the Compassionate Recovery Project, Internal Family Systems, parts work, or any particular recovery program.
This is a coaching and educational workshop. It is not therapy, treatment, or crisis support.

I began my own recovery from alcohol addiction in 1982.
For many years, I thought that because I had stopped drinking and built a good life, I had accomplished what recovery was supposed to accomplish.
It took me much longer to recognize that there were things inside me that sobriety alone had not changed.
That realization eventually changed both my personal recovery and the work I do with others.
Today, I am a coach, Certified IFS Practitioner, and creator of the Compassionate Recovery Project. My work focuses on helping people who have already made significant progress in recovery explore what becomes possible when they stop treating themselves as another problem that needs to be managed.

The question isn't necessarily whether you need more information.
There may be something different to discover about the behavior you've been trying so hard to change.
Bring one real pattern.
We'll start there.
